Discography

Music of the Baroque (second edition)
Discography (With Links to Audio Files)

I am gradually adding direct links to my own recordings of a number of items (mostly for keyboard instruments). These are minimally edited, rough and ready performances that would not meet the standards of commercial recordings but may prove adequate for teaching, especially in cases where other recordings are not available. Check back here as new items are added. This file and all linked audio files are copyright (c) 2013 by David Schulenberg, all rights reserved. Permission is granted to download these files for personal and classroom use. Other use, including uploading to other websites and publication in any form, is prohibited.

Part 1 of this discography lists recordings for items in the anthology (second edition). Part 2 lists recordings for examples in the textbook (second edition).

I have heard most of these recordings but not all of them, and the listing of a recording here does not imply that it is particularly recommended. However, all recordings listed present works in historically informed performances; many of the performances are excellent and all are believed to be adequate (at the very least). All recordings listed have been issued on CD; I have left out some excellent older recordings that seem not to have been issued in newer formats. I am not yet aware of relevant recordings available only as downloads.

Insofar as possible, I have included titles, labels, and dates for the original publication of each recording. Classical recordings go in and out of publication quickly; often the same recording is reissued on a different label or as part of a new compilation. For this reason I have retained many listings for older recordings that may no longer be available under the title or label listed here; many recordings may be available under alternate titles or on different labels and with new catalog numbers.

Although classical music is increasingly available from online music sites, most downloadable classical music has previously appeared on regular CDs. Essential verbal material, including historical program notes, complete lists of performers, and original texts and translations (for vocal works), is often available only in the printed program booklets that accompany most reputable classical CD recordings. Therefore no effort has been made to identify sites for downloads.
