Intergroup Monopoly

Social psychologist Richard Harvey developed alternate rules for playing the game of Monopoly. Initially, each of four players follows a different, and unequal, set of rules. Following this phase in which wealth disparities quickly grow, all players are then allowed to follow the same set of rules. While the system becomes fair, past disparities continue to influence wealth.

Harvey’s Intergroup Monopoly won the 2011 Social Psychology Network Action Teaching Award.
