This a picture of a plantation in the Caribbean filled with African slave children and adults, mothers and fathers. In this picture they are collecting sugar cane and carefully being observed by a white man on a horse. Sometimes these families or individual slaves would be separated and/or tortured for disciplinary actions or punishment purposes.
